Camp Counsellor for the Maillardville French Summer Camp

Full-time position, 40 hrs/week (8hrs/day, Monday to Friday)
Location: Port-Coquitlam, British Columbia
Duration: July 6th to August 28
Hourly wage: $20/hr

About the Société Francophone de Maillardville:
The Société Francophone de Maillardville is a community organization committed to promoting the French language and culture in British Columbia. We offer family activities, cultural programs and community events that support the vitality of the francophone and francophile community in the region.

We are looking for four bilingual students, between 15 and 30 years old, with enough motivation and experience to work as camp counsellors within our French-language summer camp, alongside children aged 5 to 12.

Main responsibilities: The candidates will lead eight weeks of camp. They must be able to work alongside camp volunteers and help make this experience an enjoyable, enriching and safe moment for both volunteers and the children attending the camp. They will work under the direction of the camp coordinator.

Qualifications and assets:

  • Bilingual (French and English)
  • Maintain a positive and energizing attitude every day
  • Be able to make programs fun and engaging and act as a mentor for volunteers and participants
  • Have diverse knowledge in sports, games, arts and crafts, cooking, etc.
  • Communicate effectively, professionally and in a friendly manner with children, parents and colleagues
  • Be able to maintain discipline and ensure a safe environment for children
  • First Aid certificate is an important asset
  • Food Safe & High Five Training is an asset
  • Criminal record check required

Requirements:

This position is funded by Canada’s Young Canada Works in Both Official Languages program. The candidate must therefore:

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding a temporary work visa or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible)
  • Be legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Be between 16 and 30 years old at the start of employment
  • Commit to working for the full duration of the employment
  • Not hold another full-time job (more than 30 hours per week) during the Young Canada Works (YCW) employment period
  • Have been a full-time student in high school, college, CEGEP or university (as defined by the educational institution) during the semester preceding YCW employment
  • Intend to return to full-time studies during the semester following YCW employment
  • Have a working knowledge of both French and English
  • Be willing to work in another region of Canada

Transportation and accommodation costs: The Young Canada Works in Both Official Languages program will cover the cost of one round trip from the student’s permanent residence to the workplace for students who must relocate at least 125 kilometres from their permanent residence. The program also offers a housing allowance of $200 per month for rental expenses.
